About Us
We are Pat and Joannie Martin. We were both born in Blackford County Indiana, and while Joannie grew up there her whole life, Pat eventually moved to Wells County, Indiana and graduated from high school there. We were married in April of 1989 and after 35 years of marriage we are still each other's best friend, and partner in crime! We have 3 children and 2 beautiful grandchildren. When we aren't working on our Grumpy Dog business, we enjoy relaxing on our porch, working in our garden, or going fishing!
You may be wondering "why the name "Grumpy Dog"?"
We actually have 3 dogs, but our oldest dog "Lacey" has a personality all her own! We noticed that when we would leave her side to go work on our business, Lacey would simply stare at us and make grumpy faces. The name just stuck after that!
Everything started in 2018 when Joannie started doing custom prints in small batches. In 2023, we bought a freeze dryer to preserve the abundance of food that our garden had given us. In doing so, we also began to experiment with freeze drying different foods. In the beginning we were just giving out treats to friends and family, but then we started getting requests for small orders. So, we combined the two businesses and Grumpy Dog was launched!
